Congratulations to our new Black Belts from the Blind Community Martial Arts Academy in San Diego, California! Lee Morton, Kathy Hennan, Wally Yeatts, Aurora Ortiz, and Shelly Stevens received their 1st Dan Black Belt in ChunJiDo on July 7th, 2012. These amazing martial artists dedicated themselves to training since 2005 and now recognize their dream of becoming Black Belts!

There are moments that re-define how you look at life, and this experience was truly a life-changing event for me. Words cannot express how inspired I was by Lee, Kathy, Wally, Aurora, and Shelly… they are amazing martial artists that have set the bar higher for everyone. They endured a 2 1/2 hour pre-test and then a few days later excelled in a 4 1/2 hour Black Belt test! At the promotion ceremony I did not look out and see anyone that was blind, hearing-impaired. or advanced in age. What I saw was the most incredible group of martial artists I have ever seen!

My highest respects to Sensei Mario Schapp, an amazing martial artist and instructor who already in his young martial arts career has done what many instructors spend a lifetime trying to achieve… He has impacted martial arts, his students lives, and has made the arts something special for future generations!

Our best wishes to Lee, Kathy, Wally, Aurora, and Shelly for their continued success in the arts and our greatest admiration to Sensei Mario Schapp, you are an inspiration to all instructors and exemplify the true meaning of being a Sensei!

Your ChunJiDo Family Worldwide is very proud of all of you!

Congratulations to ChunJiDo International Director, Michele Pisante and the ChunJiDo Italy Family on a wonderful seminar to honor the life of Eternal Grandmaster Carlo Luciano Foralosso!

Few have ever achieved the level of greatness and high esteem as Eternal Grandmaster Foralosso. Many begin this journey, but few have the commitment and dedication to devote themselves to this worthy cause and become a true legend in the eyes of his followers.

As we continue on the Path of the Martial Arts, the belief that we can make a difference in the world gives us the strength to persevere. Eternal Grandmaster Foralosso made a tremendous impact in the lives of many martial artists over his lifetime through his dedication and commitment to the arts and to those who followed his teachings.

The Martial Arts has lost a legend, but we are a stronger Martial Arts Family due to the outstanding contribution Eternal Grandmaster Carlo Luciano Foralosso made to the arts and those who had the honor of training with him.

God Bless all of the Masters from around the world who dedicated their time and knowledge of the arts at the seminar and a special recognition to GM Pisante who demonstrated the honor and respect to celebrate the life of GM Foralosso in such grand fashion.

May the memories of Eternal Grandmaster Carlo Luciano Foralosso forever be in our hearts.

Master Illya Williams of Evansville, Indiana Joins ChunJiDo International!
By Grandmaster Cutrell on Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 12:00 am
http://chunjido-international.com/news_items/125

Master Williams has been a practitioner of the martial arts for over 30 years. After receiving his 1st Dan in PaSaRyu Taekwondo (a unique combination of Karate, Taekwondo, and Kung-Fu) at 14 years old, Master Williams competed on the national Jr. circuit during the 1980s. From 1986-1989 Master Williams held several Jr. black belt national titles in kata and sparring. As a 4th Dan in PaSaRyu, Master Williams gave up competing in the 1990s to study Aikido and Wing Chun, where he attained the ranks of Shodan and Sifu respectively.

In 2008, Master Williams decided to open his own school, that uniquely combines PaSaRyu, Aikido, and Wing Chun in hopes of teaching his students techniques from each of those disciplines making them well rounded martial artists. In 2009, Master Williams was honored with his 5th degree and Masters ranking in PaSaRyu. Master Williams is a traditional martial artist, not only do his students learn the physical aspects and techniques of martial arts, they also learn the core values of internal personal growth and enlightenment that the martial arts were based on.

Master Williams, Welcome to the ChunJiDo Family!

In February the Italian Delegation will be presenting an international martial arts seminar in Seregno, Italy at the Saint Ambrose Defense Academy of Master Michele Pisante in honor of the lifetime achievements of Grandmaster Foralosso whose legacy will live on forever in the hearts of all of the Masters of Italy. With Grandmaster Foralosso's passing the delegation felt it was appropriate to honor Grandmaster Foralosso by bringing together martial artists from around the world to share in the brotherhood of the arts. I have sent my regrets to the delegation that I will not be able to attend, but I will be sending a representative from ChunJiDo International to share in this event to honor Grandmaster Foralosso. Our representative will be Shifu Christos Stamatiadis, my ChunJiDo International Director for Greece who now lives in Great Britain where he owns and operates The School of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts & Philosophy.

Shifu Stamatiadis has lived in China during his studies with China's most elite Grandmasters and has conducted Wushu Kung Fu seminars

A Measure of a Man's Strength is in Compassion and Love for Others...
By Grandmaster Cutrell on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 12:00 am
Yesterday, I had a great phone conversation with a dear friend and an amazing man. This friend is a very high ranking Grandmaster and is probably one of the mentally strongest men I know. I will not use his name out of respect for his privacy, but recently he has been dealing with several severe health issues, including surgeries that have left him very weak and has forced him to try to stay home from teaching and running his school in order to gain his strength back.

I called to check on him and see how he was doing, but rather than be concerned with his condition, he quickly changed the conversation to how I was doing, how my organization was doing, and how my kids are doing at my academy. We also talked about a recent tournament which he apologized for missing due to his numerous surgeries. All the while I was thinking, “Why is he apologizing to me with all that he is going through?” He has been through several major surgeries in the last few months that would have devastated a lesser man, but he was more concerned with how everyone else was doing and apologizing because he missed seeing me at the tournament.

All I can say is this gentleman is truly a GRANDMASTER in every sense of the word. Regardless of the trials and tribulations he was going through his concern was with everyone else and how they were doing in the arts! He also talked about how much he missed being on the training floor and seeing all of the kids. My already great respect for this man grew even more! I hope if I am ever faced with similar challenges, I can be half the man and Sensei that he is… truly an example for others to aspire to.

God bless you my friend and my highest respects for your compassion and love for your students, fellow instructors, and the arts. Also my best wishes for your speedy recovery!

4th Annual "I Kicked For a Cause" Kick-a-thon
By Grandmaster Cutrell on Fri, Sep 16, 2011 at 1:18 pm
It is truly amazing how individuals can come together and demonstrate extraordinary human spirit to support a great cause. This was never more evident than this last weekend August 13, 2011 at the 4th Annual Terry D. Turner, “I Kicked For a Cause” Memorial Kick-a-thon. This event has raised over $15,000 for various charities over the previous three years. Students, parents, organizers, and those who donated stepped up again this year in grand fashion to present another very successful event!

Donations included, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans tickets, Seattle Mariner tickets, autographed sports memorabilia, artwork by an incredible local artist Robin Lawrence, restaurant donations, certificates for area golf courses, recreation equipment, jewelry, electronic equipment, and St. Louis Cardinals tickets just to name a few. We had over two hundred items to auction and raffle off.

Also, for the first time ever, our Washington State Director, Eric Minar and our ChunJiDo Students at the Mel Korum YMCA in Puyallup, Washington partipated and had a very successful first Kick-a-thon and, together with the Evansville ChunJiDo Academy in Evansville, Indiana, were able to raise funds to benefit the Hemophilia Foundation, the Shriner’s Transport Services, and the YMCA Strong Kids program.

It was simply amazing to see the ChunJiDo Family across the US come together for such a great cause! Our deepest appreciation to everyone for your tremendous demonstration of compassion and unity in our efforts to support these charities. Without the efforts from our incredible ChunJiDo Family this successful event could not have been possible!

God bless you all,

Sharing the Gift of Martial Arts!
By Grandmaster Cutrell on Fri, Sep 16, 2011 at 1:11 pm
I just had a wonderful conversation this morning with our good friend and ChunJiDo International Tennessee State Director, Dr. Dan Netherland. As many of you may know, Dr. Netherland is one of the World’s top breaking experts, holds many breaking world records, and is in Ripley’s, “Believe it or Not!” Dr. Netherland is not only an incredible martial artist, but also an amazing motivational speaker and mentor to young martial artists.

It was wonderful to talk about how much we both consider it a gift to be a martial arts instructor and share our gift with others. Having had my fair share of injuries and setbacks along the way, I still would not change a thing. I truly feel blessed to be able to teach martial arts and impact the lives of my students in some way.

Seeing the excitement, and sense of achievement in the eyes of a child training in martial arts or the determination of an adult student who is transforming their life through the arts is all of the reward I need and far exceeds any trophy I have ever received in competition! Dr. Netherland expressed the same appreciation for this wonderful opportunity to teach and feels everyday in the dojo is truly a blessing.

During my conversation with Dr. Netherland, he gave me the highest compliment that he possibly could have when he said, “I believe in you and your wife, and I believe in your organization and what you are working to accomplish!” This is coming from someone who has dedicated nearly six decades of his life to the martial arts and has traveled the world giving motivational speeches and setting world breaking records! Dr. Netherland is a true Man of God and is not one to waste words, so knowing that he feels this way, it is a great honor and privilege!

Thank you Dr. Netherland and may God continue to bless and strengthen you in all you do for the arts and for those coming up behind you. I hope you continue to share your gifts for many years to come!

ChunJiDo 15 Year Celebration
By Grandmaster Cutrell on Wed, Mar 30, 2011 at 6:16 pm
This weekend the ChunJiDo organization celebrated its 15 Year Anniversary and it was truly a monumental event. The event was attended by nearly 200 people including most of the high ranking Black Belts in the organization, students, and their families. In addition, my dear friend and one of the most respected martial artists in the Midwest, Grandmaster Tom Black of Carbondale, Illinois and Heather Minckler one of his top Instructors, attended the celebration. Grandmaster Black is our ChunJiDo International Illinois State Director and a very strong supporter of ChunJiDo. Their attendance was greatly appreciated and I am always deeply thankful for their continued support.

The event kicked-off with testimonies from several Black Belts, students, and parents, who openly shared their experiences with the ChunJiDo organization and expressed their gratitude for what all it has done for them and what ChunJiDo has meant to them. I was so humbled and moved by all of the kind words about the impact I, as their Master Instructor, have made in their lives. There was not a dry eye in the house. I have always hoped, through my teachings, I could influence the lives of others in a positive way and it was reassuring to see that my hopes are coming true! As an instructor, I feel it is just as important to develop life skills as it is to develop martial arts or self-defense skills. ChunJiDo is about self-realization and giving people the confidence to meet challenges and overcome obstacles. Words cannot express my gratitude to all of those who spoke and I am forever grateful for your kind words and appreciation.

I also want to thank my amazing wife, Sensei Nancy Cutrell, who is my rock and my strength. She has always believed in me and supported me in my efforts to grow the ChunJiDo organization, and most recently, to take it internationally. Without her love and belief in my vision it would not have been possible.

Fifteen years ago I started the ChunJiDo organization on a hope and a dream, fifteen years later it has far exceeded my expectations. It would not have been possible without all of my Black Belts, students, families, and fellow martial artists along the way that have believed and supported this vision. Most of all it would not have been possible without the Grace of a Loving God, that has allowed me to do his work and who gave me this wonderful gift of martial arts to share with others. I am also grateful for everyone who helped put on the celebration this weekend. Thank you all for a wonderful day that meant the world to me!

The seminar will include various components of the ChunJiDo system including; fighting ranges, empty hand self-defense, jointlocks, pressure points, stick training, Women's self-defense, sparring drills, and rolls & throws. The seminar is open to ChunJiDo students and martial artists from other systems.
It is going to be a great time!

We will have information and registration forms available very soon. If you are in the Washington area, mark your calendars now. This is a seminar you do not want to miss!

14 of Italy’s top Grandmasters and Masters are now members of ChunJiDo International!
By Grandmaster Cutrell on Sun, Jan 30, 2011 at 12:00 am
It is a tremendous honor and privilege to announce…
14 of Italy’s top Grandmasters and Masters are now members of ChunJiDo International!

In addition to Grandmaster Adriano Pizzato, our Italy National Director, 13 of Italy’s most highly regarded Grandmasters and Masters will be joining our organization. These amazing martial artists will represent such wonderful arts as Shin Shobukai Foralosso Ryu, Aku na Sifta Shinto Ryu, Inazuma Ryu aikijutsu, Judo, Karate, Kickboxing, Jujitsu, Arnis, Kali, and Sikaran. Two of these Grandmasters, GM Carlo Luciano Foralosso (85) and GM Renato Bosich (75) were the first instructors to open schools in Italy after WWII.

This is a monumental event in the history of ChunJiDo. We will have a very strong presence and, will most likely, be the largest organization in Italy! Grandmaster Pizzato, our Italy National Director, is committed to continuing to support and grow the ChunJiDo organization in his country.

Thank you to Grandmaster Pizzato for helping to make this wonderful addition of the Best of the Best Grandmasters and Masters in Italy possible and for your strong leadership in Italy!

Our ChunJiDo Family continues to grow and we have been truly blessed to have so many wonderful martial artists in our organization!
