UFC and WEC mixed martial arts companies merge

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- World Extreme Cage fighting, a Lemoore based mix martial arts company is merging with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

This means bigger paydays and more TV exposure.

Next year, the UFC -- widely considered the sport's biggest brand -- will retain all WEC fighters.

Just nine years ago the WEC began as a potential one-time fight promotion at the Tachi Palace.

Friday it became home to some of MMA's best light-weight fighters.
