Japanese indy promotion DEEP will head to Venetian Macau on January 8, 2011, for the first time in its ten year existence. “Mayhem In Macau”, the Japan-based mixed martial arts (MMA) show, will take place at the Cotai Arena.

The evening will feature an action-packed bill including a professional women’s fight – a rare event in Asia outside Japan, where female MMA is hugely popular – plus a super-heavyweight clash.

The event comes to Macau as the sport of mixed martial arts grows across the world, most notably in the United States where the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) draws huge audiences.

Now it’s the turn of top combat athletes from Japan, China, Thailand, Brazil and elsewhere to showcase their skills in this part of the world.

Topping the bill at the Cotai Arena is a super-heavyweight title clash between Yusuke Kawaguchi and Kazuhisa Tazawa. “With these guys each weighing in at over 100kg, fight fans are in for a treat,” the organisation said in a press statement.

Flying the flag for women’s MMA will be Japan’s Saori Ishioka who will take on Ann Tipsuta Wongkhamma of Thailand. The reigning Deep champion at 65kg, Masakazu Imanari, will be defending his title while Alex “Dragon SLayer:” Yiu of China challenges Japan’s Yuyai Shirai for the 77.1kg Deep Mayhem championship belt.

Chinese fight fans will also be backing former UFC fighter Andy Wong of Taiwan who is up against a Brazilian.
