Actor Jackie Chan has come forward to aid those affected by a drought in China by personally bringing much-needed water to the area.

The ‘Rush Hour’ star delivered 48,000 bottles of fluids when he travelled to TongRen in China’s Guizhou province.

He also visited an elementary school, where he gave students backpacks filled with notebooks, t-shirts and rulers, reports the Daily Star.

In a post on his blog, he writes, “Up in the mountains where the people lived, they were facing serious water shortages. In the summer’s dry season, villagers have to walk 10 miles down the mountain just to collect two bottles of water.”

“In the car up to the mountain, I could see the roof of many houses, used as a reservoir for water. However, it was covered with moss and there was no filter. They used it to wash their clothes, their plates, and even to drink,” he added.

The martial arts master not just the transported the water bottles but also helped the area by donating one million Yuan to the local government.

“After seeing how they drank water, I immediately donated one million RMB (Chinese Yuan) to the local government. Also, I donated money (for) the construction of 10 kilometers of water pipes and a water tower. Now, 9,000 people in the village can drink clean water!” he said.
